On March 10, the film crew of Snow White released a new video featuring the song “Waiting On A Wish,” performed by singer Suzy. In the clip, Suzy dons a white dress that highlights her fair skin and dark hair, perfectly embodying the character of Snow White. Her stunning appearance has garnered a multitude of praise from viewers.

According to SBS, the main theme of the song “Waiting On A Wish” conveys the longing for a unique destiny of Snow White. The character carries a heart full of hope, innocence, and bravery while confronting the evil queen who seeks to dominate the kingdom with dark power. Suzy appears in a gown reminiscent of Snow White, and when she wears a yellow dress, she resembles a beautiful fairy, creating a magical effect.

Snow White is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s classic animated film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). In the movie, Snow White is pursued by the evil queen, who envies her beauty and seeks to eliminate her. She is saved by the seven dwarfs who take her in after she escapes into the forest. However, the evil queen continues to find ways to kill Snow White.
Since the project’s announcement, Snow White has faced criticism due to the casting of Rachel Zegler, whose skin tone does not match the original portrayal. The Brothers Grimm described Snow White as having “skin as white as snow, hair as black as ebony, and lips as red as blood.” This is also why she was given the name Snow White. However, the Colombian and Polish actress has a tan complexion.

Many viewers have noted that the appearance of the evil queen, portrayed by Gal Gadot, is more reminiscent of Snow White than Rachel Zegler, leading to a sense of “jealousy.” Numerous individuals have compared her to other Snow Whites, such as Lily Collins in Mirror Mirror (2012) and Kristen Stewart in Snow White and the Huntsman (2012).
Furthermore, the 2001-born actress has stirred controversy after openly criticizing the original film’s script. During the D23 Expo event in 2023, she mocked Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs as outdated, claiming that Snow White is not merely waiting for a prince but is actively pursuing her own destiny. Rachel stated: “My intention is to portray a Snow White who is not waiting around for a prince to rescue her, and she will be forging her own path…”

However, Rachel Zegler’s remarks have sparked further backlash from the public. This is one of the reasons why the teaser has received criticism. One commentator wrote: “Wow. Disney. You are truly astonishing. After three years and multiple script revisions, CGI that isn’t necessary, and a $209 million budget, you’ve managed to create a film that I will never watch. Thank you.” Another viewer commented: “Shrek has done a better job depicting Snow White than Disney.”
