LCK is Determined to “Defeat” Teams, Even Faker Can’t Escape
In a recent financial report about a month ago, the LCK revealed that while this region has consistently enjoyed glory from international tournaments, the investment in Esports remains quite low. Simultaneously, the existence of certain issues concerning the Chinese market has caused LCK matches to no longer be broadcast live there, which has significantly impacted the LCK. Therefore, the tournament organizers have to continuously adapt. Currently, one of the main strategies being implemented by LCK is that teams will participate in co-streaming their matches. Notably, Faker is also required to join the program.

However, this strategy raises an issue. For co-streaming to be engaging, streamers need to possess not just professional knowledge but also effective communication skills to draw viewers in. At the same time, Faker is notably known for being one of the least engaging streamers. In fact, he has had streams where he merely sat and said “thank you” when receiving donations.
Moreover, this situation could affect and complicate the schedules of the participating teams. Additionally, names like Faker or Chovy attract more viewers than lesser-known players, especially when their playstyle is more entertaining. The LCK consistently has various regulations for its teams, and this could limit viewership for co-streaming channels, especially for less popular names.

The Effectiveness of This Strategy by LCK is Uncertain, Even with Faker
Utilizing the fanbase of participating teams for co-streaming is a strategy aimed at attracting more views for matches that lack big names like T1, Gen.G, or HLE. However, it’s still uncertain whether this approach will succeed, especially since there are already numerous popular and effective streaming channels globally.
Nevertheless, it seems LCK will still experiment, and players like Faker and Chovy will be the key figures in this initiative. Yet, how long this project will last and whether it will succeed or not remains to be seen.
