Rurouni Kenshin is a renowned Japanese manga series that has gained popularity in Vietnam, centering around the character Himura Kenshin as he battles against evil and seeks to atone for his dark past as an assassin during the Meiji era.
First published in 1994, Rurouni Kenshin ran for 28 volumes and concluded in 1999. Following its success, the franchise expanded into various animated series, video games, and merchandise. According to statistics, by 2014, over 70 million copies of Rurouni Kenshin had been sold worldwide.
After the original manga series concluded, author Nobuhiro Watsuki later released Rurouni Kenshin: Restoration (a two-volume summary of the entire story) in 2012 and Rurouni Kenshin: To Rule Flame (a side story focusing on the relationship between Makoto and his love interest Yumi) in 2014.
This past weekend, Watsuki unveiled a new side story titled Tomoro with the Criminal Record. The two new chapters do not focus on the character Kenshin but instead highlight the surroundings, time, and experiences of the new character Tomoro, alongside two other mysterious figures named Aran and Arashi.
Currently, Nobuhiro Watsuki has not released any new lengthy works since completing the manga Embalming – The Another Tale of Frankenstein in April 2015.
According to some sources from Japan, the new side chapters of Rurouni Kenshin are said to be a tribute to Watsuki’s fans after the two live-action films based on the manga achieved significant success in the preceding years.
