It’s only been three weeks since the final bombing of Walt Disney’s 2016 animation: Moana’s Journey officially premiered to Vietnamese audiences. Under the creative hands of the minds behind Frozen and Big Hero 6, Moana’s Journey is poised to become a blockbuster that continues to add to the success of Walt Disney Studios.
In Vietnam, “The Hidden Talent” contestant Minh Như, at just 17 years old, will voice the character Moana—a young girl who embarks on a journey to reclaim her island’s heart and spirit. Compared to Auli’i Cravalho, the English voice for Moana, Minh Như brings a stronger, more vibrant personality and an emotional depth with her powerful voice.
Alongside her singing, Minh Như’s vocal performance was highlighted during the recent “Hidden Talent” competition, which has led Disney fans in Vietnam to believe that they will hear her voice in this animated film’s Vietnamese version.
Notably, this is Minh Như’s first voice acting role in an animated film and her debut project following her victory in the “Hidden Talent” competition. With her remarkable talent, Minh Như made a significant impression on the demanding Disney representatives, who quickly selected her to bring this entirely new character to life. Minh Như expressed her excitement and pride but also her anxiety about meeting the high standards required for voice acting and singing the film’s memorable songs.
From the studios of Walt Disney Animation, Moana is an animated feature realized using CG technology, revolving around the story of the brave and adventurous Moana who decides to lead her people on a daring journey to restore the heart of their island, which has been stolen by a demigod.
Song from the movie in the Vietnamese version
To achieve her goals, Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) must convince the demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) to accompany her. Maui becomes her friend, guide, and protector as Moana strives to become a daring adventurer, much like the legendary heroes of the past.
Moana’s journey is directed by the renowned duo Ron Clements and John Musker, known for classics like “The Little Mermaid,” “Aladdin,” and “The Princess and the Frog.” The film is produced by Osnat Shurer, with music composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Mark Mancina, and Opetaia Foa’i.
Moana is set to be released nationwide on November 25, 2016.
