In a recent interview with Collider, actor Taz Skylar, who embodies the character Sanji, the chef of the Straw Hat Pirates in the live-action adaptation of “One Piece,” shared his thoughts. He expressed his desire for the series not to follow the lengthy format of the anime version but to conclude in a way that satisfies the audience. “I want it to be depicted accurately and to reach a satisfying conclusion where we all feel happy. I want everyone to take pride in where we finish. I don’t want it to be a rushed ending, nor do I want it to be dragged out. That’s my perspective,” Taz Skylar explained. Additionally, Iñaki Godoy, who plays the main character Monkey D. Luffy, echoed Skylar’s sentiments regarding the series’ conclusion.

“One Piece” is adapted from the famous Japanese manga created by Eiichiro Oda, which narrates the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, and his crew. Following Luffy, they embark on various adventures across the seas to find the ultimate treasure known as the “One Piece” and achieve the title of Pirate King. The live-action version is produced by Tomorrow Studios and is backed by Shueisha, the publisher of the original manga, where the creator is currently working.
The first season was announced on July 21, 2017, by Hiroyuki Nakano, the editor-in-chief of the renowned manga magazine Shounen Jump, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the manga’s publication. Subsequently, Netflix confirmed that they had begun producing the live-action series “One Piece.” Notably, the production cost for each episode of Netflix’s “One Piece” has reached up to $18 million. The series comprises a total of 8 episodes. The total production cost for the entire project is estimated to be around $150 million, comparable to that of a blockbuster film.
The series is set to premiere on August 31.
