The eagerly anticipated animated film from Disney, titled Moana, has just released its official trailer. Not only does it deliver the exciting content fans have been looking forward to, but the stunning visuals in Moana have also left viewers immensely intrigued.
Moana trailer featuring a giant lava monster
As seen in previous trailers, we know that the film will focus on the adventures of a girl named Moana (voiced by teen actress Auli’i Cravalho) in the South Pacific. Joining Moana is the demigod Maui (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) and a pet pig.
In the trailer, we see Moana on a quest to find the demigod Maui while navigating her oceanic home. The main plot revolves around her determination to “find a hero… to seek out Maui together, and hopefully, he will help us.” This official trailer also showcases the stunning animation of a lava monster and the beautiful ocean waves.
Moana is Disney’s first animated film to feature a Polynesian girl (specifically from the region of the South Pacific). Many viewers have drawn connections between Moana and the animated film Lilo & Stitch, where Lilo is a Hawaiian girl. The stunning visuals of Moana are reminiscent of Disney’s artistry, and the chemistry between The Rock and Auli’i Cravalho is palpable. While Maui is depicted as a “god” with a larger-than-life persona, Moana is portrayed as a determined girl who continually seeks his guidance to navigate her journey.
Disney hopes that Moana will achieve the same success as its past hits such as Frozen, Big Hero 6, and Zootopia, aiming to dominate box offices and garner critical acclaim. If it does, this could mark another significant milestone for “The Rock,” who was recognized by Forbes as the highest-paid actor in Hollywood for 2016.
