Taiwan, known for its vibrant culture and social media influencers, has recently been in the spotlight due to the famous model Ching Chia Tuan. She gained popularity for her provocative photos shared online, showcasing her physique. However, after getting married, she announced that she would no longer post revealing images.
At the end of 2022, Ching Chia Tuan released a photo album titled Goodbye to the Industry, marking her farewell to a career that had kept her in the public eye for many years. Following this, the 30-year-old model announced the auction of her lingerie collection, which she had featured in the album. The proceeds from the auction were pledged to charitable organizations.
The auction items were valued at over 10,000 New Taiwan Dollars (approximately 320 USD). The highest bid was for a set of red lingerie, which was sold for 17,000 New Taiwan Dollars (around 544 USD).

The actions of the model sparked controversy in Taiwanese society. A segment of the online community expressed negative sentiments towards her decision to auction off lingerie, labeling it as inappropriate. Some comments included remarks like “Surely she must be sick,” “Doesn’t she know how disgraceful this is?” and “We need to be cautious about such acts.”
In response to the public uproar, Ching Chia Tuan released several images on social media, showcasing her lingerie while discussing the backlash she faced, which included threats and derogatory remarks.
Following the backlash, the authorities received three complaints and initiated an investigation into the matter. One report stated, “I believe that selling lingerie is an immoral act. If money is earned this way, it can lead to serious moral degradation. I do not intend to ruin her reputation, but I will not allow damage to her image.”
According to the content of the complaints, the investigating bodies confirmed that the language used was inappropriate but did not escalate to severe legal implications. The responsible agency stated that discussions among the officials regarding public opinions must be conducted openly without limitations, especially when addressing comments that may negatively impact public perception.
Furthermore, the authorities concluded that the opinions expressed did not aim to harm Ching Chia Tuan’s reputation but were instead intended to reflect the public’s perspective. Thus, the three complaints were not pursued, and instead, they were deemed as legitimate expressions of public sentiment.
