Recently, Nam Em has consistently been the center of attention, often causing confusion among viewers with her frequent livestreams on TikTok. In these sessions, she shares personal anecdotes and engages in actions that provoke strong reactions. Most notably, she has made headlines by comparing herself to the character Mai from the popular film of the same name, stating, “In reality, I am quite similar to Mai; I tend to be misunderstood.”
In her latest livestream on February 18, Nam Em mentioned Tran Thanh, who is not only a director but also plays a significant role in this film. Viewers were intrigued by her comments regarding Tran Thanh’s choice to portray the character of Mai: “I think because many people dislike him, he should play the most hated character in the film.” Additionally, Nam Em praised Tran Thanh as someone with “heart and spirit,” which makes it possible for him to write engaging scripts.
Tran Thanh’s presence has quite a number of detractors, something that is well-known. In fact, Tran Thanh himself has previously stated that he is an artist who is often disliked and “the most hated in Vietnam.” However, the reasoning that Nam Em provided does not align well, as it turns out that the person Tran Thanh chose to play the character whom everyone despises in Mai is People’s Artist Viet Anh. Nam Em shared: “This role was clearly meant for Teacher Viet Anh. He would have been excellent in this role. However, the producers ‘pressured’ me, worrying that I would play a role: ‘He is also my actor, and many people are waiting for his character, but he doesn’t play any role at all?’”
To be honest, I still have the role of Uncle Ut. This character appears more than this one. I will play this role, but I cannot take on Uncle Ut. With Teacher Viet Anh’s charisma, everyone will easily see that at least Mai has Uncle Ut as a reference. We should prioritize something better in the end; I think Teacher Viet Anh should only take on the role of the father figure.
