Boruto: Two Blue Vortex is a series that has transformed the journey of Uzumaki Boruto into a more enjoyable experience compared to its predecessor in many ways. Unfortunately, while the new generation is having the time of their lives in the next installment, some classic characters from the Leaf Village, like Rock Lee, are not featured as prominently.
Rock Lee was first introduced during the “Chunin Exams” arc. This Konoha ninja cannot use ninjutsu but compensates with intense physical training to develop incredible superhuman strength. Even though he cannot match Gaara and his sand manipulation abilities, Rock Lee has created memorable moments that have delighted anime fans time and again. Although the storyline now focuses on Rock Lee’s son, Metal Lee, Boruto still leaves fans feeling nostalgic for Rock Lee’s past glory.

Boruto: A Nod to Rock Lee
Despite Boruto: Naruto Next Generations and Boruto: Two Blue Vortex focusing on the next generation of Konoha ninjas, both series use Rock Lee less frequently than many other prominent characters. Figures like Kakashi, Might Guy, Naruto, and Sasuke all have opportunities to battle for the ninja world, while Rock Lee does not. He is not only sidelined in combat but also lacks significant development in his storyline.
Currently, Naruto fans are still unaware of who Metal Lee’s mother is, which is quite disappointing since this mystery does not seem to be a plot point for most other ninjas. It appears that this long-standing mystery will not be resolved anytime soon. This is a prime example of how the storyline can overlook characters like Rock Lee, despite him being a beloved figure in Masashi Kishimoto’s franchise.

How Can Boruto Bring Rock Lee Back?
Considering that Might Guy has been a source of inspiration for Rock Lee, it would be ideal for him to follow in his mentor’s footsteps. Remember that Guy had a significant impact during the climax of Shippuden, delivering some of the best battle scenes in the series against Uchiha Madara.
Rock Lee has yet to have any moments related to his mentor in the latest series, and with Kishimoto returning to write the manga, it would be a wonderful opportunity to bring Lee back powerfully while also introducing new elements.
