Sakamoto Days: One of the Most Anticipated Anime of the Winter 2025 Season
Based on the hit series published in Weekly Shonen Jump by Yuto Suzuki, Sakamoto Days tells the story of Taro Sakamoto, a legendary assassin. He left behind his dangerous profession after getting married. Years later, Taro is living a peaceful life with his wife and daughter when chaos suddenly disrupts his tranquil world. With a hefty bounty placed on Taro’s head, an assassin is now targeting him. While Taro struggles to fend off this threat, his family is also in jeopardy.
Now, he must confront the challenges posed by his past and find a way to return to the Underworld. While the anime is just beginning, the manga is currently in its ninth arc. We have already been introduced to several characters up to this point, and one of the recurring themes involves a notorious assassin named Gaku, who frequently encounters trouble within the community.
However, most of the chaos surrounding this character often serves as a comedic backdrop and meme fuel. Interestingly, the creators of Sakamoto Days have also drawn inspiration from the community surrounding One Piece. Both fan communities are quite large and tend to share numerous memes about specific characters.

Sakamoto Days Character Gaku Becomes a Meme with One Piece’s Akainu
This meme originates from a famous frame featuring Akainu in One Piece chapter 1054. In the background, Akainu expresses his concern about the state of the world, stating that he must transform into a terrifying entity. He also seems to hint at making a new appearance while wandering on the beach. In this chapter, he gazes out the window of his office.
Fans of One Piece have turned this scene into a meme by altering the dialogue to include various theories and interpretations. For instance, one meme humorously suggests that Akainu is worried about Zoro being able to cut through magma, prompting him to retreat back into his office due to the impending threat.
In another instance, the meme “I want Oden’s Haki” is used to depict Zoro’s desire for the Haki of Oden, as many fans believe he is currently seeking it from the sword Enma.
Meanwhile, in Sakamoto Days, Gaku often finds himself in trouble after losing to Takamura and Nagumo, both members of the formidable Hōkai organization. Gaku is expected to make an appearance in the second season of the anime.

He is an assassin working for Slur in the JAA organization’s operations. During the Assassin Exhibition of the Century arc, Gaku loses to Nagumo. After that, he participates alongside Taro, Nagumo, Uzuki, and Haruma in an assault against Takamura’s forces. Following a severe injury, Gaku’s fate remains uncertain.
Since the manga has yet to confirm his death, many fans speculate that he is still recovering from his injuries. It remains unclear whether the manga will bring him back into the storyline, and if so, when that might happen. His current status will not be revealed until chapter 167 of Sakamoto Days, which is set to be published in May 2024.
