After nearly two decades and over a thousand chapters, One Piece has finally introduced the long-awaited Elbaf arc, which has surpassed all expectations. This arc has heated up recently with the unexpected appearance of Imu on the battlefield, and it seems to be just the beginning of an impending conflict.
The presence of Imu at Elbaf signals an unavoidable war between Imu and Luffy. In fact, the upcoming issue of Shonen Jump has hinted that a battle featuring Luffy in Gear 5 against Imu may occur in the forthcoming chapters.
A recent post on X by the account @TheAniTalk has revealed an excerpt from the preview for the next issue of Shonen Jump, specifically Issue 28, set to be released on June 9. In detail, the One Piece segment in this preview features Luffy in Gear Five and Imu taking control of Gunko, as seen at the end of Chapter 1149.
The accompanying text reads: “Imu’s surprise appearance has sent shockwaves across all of Elbaf! The image of Imu, illuminated by the vibrant colors of Nika,” along with the “comparison” of power between Imu and Luffy, strongly hints that Chapter 1151 could potentially witness Luffy battling Imu in Gear 5.
One Piece Hints at Luffy Facing Off Against Imu Sooner Than Fans Anticipated
Since first appearing in Chapter 906, Imu has been portrayed as a significant character in the latter stages of One Piece, if not the main antagonist following Blackbeard and the members of the Gorosei. Therefore, many fans speculate that the eventual confrontation with the World Government, including Imu, will only occur at the end of the series. While One Piece is officially approaching its Final Saga after the conclusion of Wano, few could have predicted that Luffy would face Imu sooner, especially given the surprise appearance of Imu at Elbaf.
With the current situation in Elbaf, it seems unlikely that anyone could truly defeat Imu within the confines of Gunko, especially after Gaban was eliminated and the reality of battle has been revealed. Furthermore, Imu still hasn’t fully revealed the extent of their power, although this revelation is sure to clarify that the only one who could potentially stand against Imu across all of One Piece is Luffy, wielding the strength of Nika. However, with the latest chapter preview, it appears that the mysterious figure may only need another week to appear before the climactic battle unfolds.
