One Piece is famous for its clever plot twists. The author, Eiichiro Oda, has surprised fans numerous times over the 27 years of the manga’s existence. Oda is well-known for concealing the backgrounds of his characters through subtle details (and sometimes without any notice at all).
One such hint was found on the cover of One Piece Volume 109, released on July 4, and titled “On Your Side.” This volume consists of 10 chapters, from Chapter 1101 to Chapter 1110. It begins with a dialogue between Kuma and concludes with the events surrounding the Egghead Island arc.

The main plot twist of this volume centers around the tense relationship between Kuma and his adopted daughter, Bonney. The cover art beautifully illustrates this connection, showing Bonney hugging her father against the backdrop of Egghead Island and Gear 5 Luffy.
Additionally, there are several prominent characters featured on the cover. The scientist Vegapunk and Sentomaru can be seen dancing joyfully like the Sun God Nika, while Stussy watches with interest. Kizaru is also present, seemingly taunting those he intends to confront during the Egghead arc.
Kizaru’s appearance on the cover is particularly enigmatic, as the other characters are part of Luffy’s crew. He also appears quite cheerful, reminiscent of his demeanor during his initial encounters with Vegapunk and Sentomaru. This may hint at Kizaru’s possible alignment with Luffy and his crew before this part of the story concludes.

Kizaru’s role in the World Government is a significant factor that makes his intentions hard to decipher. His interactions with the scientist and the emotional undertones of his character have led to speculation about his potential betrayal or conflict with his own allies.
Moreover, there is another intriguing detail to consider. On the cover of the latest One Piece volume, Sentomaru is seen jumping while turning to the left, whereas Vegapunk and Kizaru face the right. It’s worth noting that Vegapunk seems to be deceased while Sentomaru is still alive.
This raises the question: could Kizaru’s gaze direction signify that he, too, could perish by the end of this arc?
Some fans are theorizing about this possibility. One user on Twitter speculated: “Once again, Kizaru is heading in the same direction as Vegapunk. This suggests Kizaru’s death.” Another user on Reddit questioned: “Why is Kizaru dancing like Nika? Has Oda confirmed that Kizaru will switch sides?” Yet another suggested, “Kizaru is dancing like Nika… this is a SIGN! We might see Kizaru switch sides or at least have some major actions against the World Government.”
Whether Kizaru will indeed betray the World Government remains uncertain. However, Volume 109 of One Piece undoubtedly raises numerous questions and prompts us to consider various theories regarding the fate of these characters.
