It is impossible to deny the tremendous impact that One Piece by Eiichiro Oda has had on the manga industry. This series is not only a member of the “Big 3” in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine but also one of the longest-running manga, with 1,133 chapters published and many more currently being developed.
Since its debut, the manga has consistently captivated audiences, and recently it has achieved a new milestone that is truly remarkable, even for One Piece.
According to an official announcement from X (formerly known as Twitter) regarding Eiichiro Oda and the One Piece series, the manga has been published continuously for over 10,000 days.
One Piece first appeared in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine of Shueisha on July 22, 1997, embarking on a nearly 30-year journey. For reference, on the same day that One Piece debuted its first chapter, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure was already on chapter 514, “White Album, Part 6,” or chapter 74 of Part 5. Yu-Gi-Oh! also published chapter 42, “Get the Million!!” in that issue.

One Piece has always been recognized as a legendary manga
One Piece has had a unique experience as it has continuously surpassed many other manga series, while Eiichiro Oda has remained humble throughout his journey. Oda’s first one-shot, Wanted!, published when he was only 20 years old, won him several awards for short stories, including the prestigious Tezuka Award.
The success of Wanted! helped Oda secure a job at Weekly Shonen Jump under the guidance of Shinobu Kaitani while working on his own series, Suizan Police Gang. Later, he also worked on the series Jungle King Tar-chan by Masaya Tokuhiro. By the age of 19, Oda was already working on Rurouni Kenshin, which would ultimately shape his future in the industry.
Following Wanted! and other works, Oda published two one-shots under the title Romance Dawn, which introduced Luffy as the main character. This short story was first published in 1996 in Akamaru Jump, and a version was later released in Weekly Shonen Jump, serving to showcase the talents of budding artists.

Eventually, One Piece began to gain traction and quickly became a hit – it has since transformed into the best-selling manga of all time, breaking the Guinness World Record in 2022 with over 500 million copies sold. One Piece is also recognized as the longest-running manga series with 20 volumes published, with 110 volumes released to date.
