One Piece has introduced a variety of intriguing characters since its inception. Recently, the manga series has dedicated time to presenting the previous empress of Amazon Lily before Boa Hancock.
This revelation comes from Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, during a recent SBS (Shitsumon ni Owaru) segment where he discussed the previous rulers of Amazon Lily. In this segment, Oda decided to unveil the first image of the empress known as Toritoma, who reigned over the island before Boa Hancock.

According to Oda, Toritoma ruled Amazon Lily until her passing. This empress met her end after a battle with Love Sickness. Regarding her legacy, Toritoma continued to inspire the role of empress until Shakuyaku took over. After Toritoma’s death, the title was inherited by Boa Hancock, who holds it to this day. Interestingly, Boa has managed to avoid the affliction of Love Sickness, a peculiar condition that has afflicted almost all female rulers of the Kuja tribe, which Toritoma could not escape.

Information about Toritoma is scarce. In previous narratives, Boa Hancock described her predecessor as a very influential figure. During her reign, Toritoma was known for granting mercy to Gloriosa (also known as Nyon), a former inhabitant of Amazon Lily who had fallen under unfortunate circumstances. The leadership of this remarkable empress served as inspiration for Boa Hancock.
The dark imagery of empress Toritoma, as revealed by Oda, has sparked creativity among various artists, leading to captivating representations of the former ruler of Amazon Lily.
