Bonney has been introduced since the early chapters of One Piece, and her role is quite significant in the Final Saga. As a member of the most notorious pirate faction, she is one of the strongest characters in the story. The Straw Hat Pirates encounter her after leaving Wano as they sail to Egghead Island.
Upon arriving at the island, they discover that Bonney is actually the daughter of Bartholomew Kuma. This part of the story also reveals Kuma’s tragic past and how he raised Bonney before becoming a cyborg for the government. As a former member of the Buccaneers, Kuma taught her about the Sun God Nika.
Bonney possesses the powerful Age-Age fruit, which allows her to manipulate the age of herself and others. However, in Chapter 1118 of One Piece, she takes on a new form that is specifically designated for one individual.
So, why does Bonney transform into the form of Nika in One Piece?

Bonney has a unique ability known as “Future Sight”. She can change her form and temporarily take on any appearance she desires. In Chapter 1072, she transforms into a Buccaneer, even though she doesn’t belong to that faction.
Once again, in Chapter 1101, she takes on a “Nika-like” form simply because she had never seen Nika before and only heard about her from her father. However, when witnessing Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation, she immediately recognizes that it resembles someone else’s form. Therefore, she also begins to mimic him.
Bonney’s transformation into Nika can also be viewed as her finally achieving freedom through Luffy. Luffy, the liberator of Kuma, and Bonney have long desired to meet each other. The entire narrative of One Piece revolves around the theme of freedom.
Luffy’s liberation symbolizes the freedom that people yearn for in many aspects of life. Consequently, Bonney taking on the form of Nika symbolizes her own freedom and her intertwined connection with Luffy. From a young age, she has had to endure tremendous pressure and has even lost her only family member.
Bonney has never known what happened to Kuma before arriving at Egghead. After all, the encounter with the Straw Hats and the confrontation with her father—Kuma—has shattered the illusions of her past, as she had been the embodiment of someone’s liberating hope.
