The world of the Straw Hat Pirates is always filled with tension and excitement, as we have seen in Wano with Momo and Tama. It is quite fitting that Luffy is set to form a new relationship with Bonney. Both characters have been pivotal in the world of Supernovas and have previously been part of the same faction.
Most importantly, Luffy embodies the latest representation of the Sun God Nika, a figure that Bonney has admired and revered since she was young. She sees him as a miniature representation of freedom and seeks to find inspiration through him.
Following Luffy’s Gear 5 transformation in Chapter 1118, Bonney experienced a significant transformation herself, manifesting a form reminiscent of Gear 5. She referred to this as “The Future Bending: The Future where I am the freest.” However, this form appears to be much weaker than Luffy’s Gear 5, despite the two forms looking quite similar.
As seen in One Piece Chapter 1119, Bonney can only hold this Nika-like form for a short period. Afterward, she returns to her original state, unable to maintain her mature form, reverting instead to a childlike state.
If she were to engage the power of the Sun God Nika, Luffy could become a significant ally for her. Despite the overwhelming evil aura that surrounds him, he may guide her to effectively utilize her Nika-like form better and for a longer duration. His mentorship could also help her gain confidence and protect her from the Marine Government.
However, we will have to wait until the end of the Egghead arc to see if Bonney truly becomes a member of the Straw Hat crew or not.
