Phoenix Entertainment, the new branch of Hong Kong’s Phoenix TV, has announced that it has acquired the rights to adapt all 15 martial arts novels by Jin Yong and the rights to develop related merchandise.
Zhang Jiayun, the Managing Director of Phoenix Entertainment, revealed that Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano and the Common Studio, known for their popular manga series “Ghost,” will participate in this manga adaptation project.
Zhang also stated that the company will focus on protecting the rights of Jin Yong’s literary works.
Over the past 50 years, there have been many products bearing the names of Jin Yong’s novels or characters from his stories, but only a few have received licenses.
Jin Yong (92 years old) is currently the most influential martial arts novelist in China. His 15 novels, published between the 1950s and 1970s, have created a new wave in the genre of martial arts literature.
To date, over 300 million copies of his works have been sold, translated into many languages, and adapted into films and video games.
His name was listed for the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2006, and he was awarded the title of the most beloved writer in China.
