Director Todd Phillips is currently generating immense excitement among fans by unveiling the first image of Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn. This marks the first official look of the character in the upcoming film Joker: Folie à Deux, which has been confirmed by the singer-actress participating in this project.
In the image, we see Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn and Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker sharing an intimate moment. The character’s design, reminiscent of the singer from her hit song Born This Way, features striking blonde hair and a glamorous appearance. Lady Gaga’s facial expression has also been noted as particularly fitting for the role of Harley Quinn.

Lady Gaga’s portrayal of Harley in the sequel to Joker does not mean she is replacing Margot Robbie, who played Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad. According to director Todd Phillips, “Madame Quack” will become the Joker’s love interest in a different DC universe, unrelated to the remaining superhero films from DC.
Not only did the announcement of Lady Gaga’s involvement in the sequel shock fans, but Director Todd Phillips also surprised everyone with a bold decision: Joker 2 will be a musical. This is a significant shift, as it has never been done before in the superhero genre. Looking back at the original Joker, the film successfully established a clear distinction by not adhering to conventional superhero film tropes. This uniqueness contributed to the success of Joker, making it the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time, with a global box office revenue reaching $1.07 billion.
The film Joker: Folie à Deux will focus on the complex relationship between Joker and Harley Quinn. The film is set to officially premiere for audiences on October 4, 2024.
