Riot Makes Major Changes in League of Legends
Recently, in a new announcement, Riot officially confirmed that the Hextech system will be removed from League of Legends in the near future, along with the removal of the Ultimate Hextech. For those unfamiliar, the Hextech system has been one of the oldest mechanisms in League of Legends and has been closely linked to the game’s development journey. It has also been viewed as a “treasure chest” by the League of Legends community.
According to Riot, the removal of Hextech aims to prevent potential negative impacts on the future development of League of Legends.

A Riot representative stated: “When we introduced this system into the game, we wanted to see it as a reward for the time spent playing. However, over time, the free skins from Hextech became a primary goal and made players reluctant to invest money in the game. This reality is detrimental to the long-term development of League of Legends.”
With the removal of the Hextech system, players will now have to pay to acquire items within the game, from skins to accessories, including items from regular to premium skins.

The League of Legends Community Reacts Strongly
Not only in Vietnam but the entire League of Legends community is in shock and deeply concerned about the sudden removal of Hextech. According to many comments, instead of creating conditions for the game to have a “pay-to-win” mentality, Riot has instead removed various free mechanisms. From here, the gameplay experience will no longer be meaningful as the rewards are mainly being restricted or altered.

Moreover, recently, Riot has also implemented a gacha mechanic for some premium skins in the game, causing these skin lines to have higher price tags than usual. Therefore, alongside the removal of the Hextech system, League of Legends is currently facing significant backlash regarding Riot’s policies, which many players feel have turned the game into a “money-milking” machine.
