Two Genshin Impact Accounts Banned for “Illegal Activities”
The story involves two Genshin Impact accounts named Li and Liu. Specifically, from 2022 to 2023, Li and Liu established a storefront on the online marketplace, specializing in selling gaming accounts for Genshin Impact at prices ranging from several hundred to several thousand Chinese Yuan. Initially, these two game accounts purchased a large volume of gaming accounts, later selling them on the market.

However, the serious issue at hand is that each banned account was sold without proper verification of the owner’s identity, which is a requirement for accessing gaming services under Chinese law. To make it easier for buyers to change passwords and take ownership of the accounts, Li and Liu publicly shared personal information of the original account holders. This is a serious violation of privacy rights. The original account holders, of course, were unaware and did not consent to the sharing of their personal data.

The Chinese court has identified this behavior as constituting a criminal offense involving the personal information of citizens. It’s not only a civil liability but this time, Li and Liu are being prosecuted with significant penalties: three years of imprisonment and a fine exceeding 100,000 Chinese Yuan (over 350 million VND).
Genshin Impact Players Need to Be Cautious When Trading Accounts
Not only does this harm users, but it also disrupts the operational ecosystem of game publishers, forcing them to incur additional costs for identity verification and monitoring.

Through this incident, many game developers have realized that they should not prioritize short-term profits at the expense of long-term risks. The buying and selling of accounts without personal identification not only violates service terms but can also lead to legal liabilities if the information is misused.
