A New Free Game Inspired by Vampire Survivors, Bioprototype, Recently Launched on Steam
The game is currently available for free during its limited-time period and has quickly garnered attention for its unique gameplay while retaining familiar elements.
Bioprototype, developed by the studio Emprom Game, officially launched on Steam on May 19, 2025. The game is available for free until July 20, 2025, as a way to engage players following the publisher’s success which led to the game being temporarily withdrawn from the market.
Although inspired by Vampire Survivors, Bioprototype establishes its own unique identity through its setting and character system. Instead of controlling powerful warriors fighting against undead or monsters, players will manage a primordial creature – a living organism with the ability to evolve and adapt, aiming to survive amidst various parasitic entities and defend against environmental threats. The game features 24 different characters, each of which can be “built” uniquely through 80 types of internal organs that can be obtained from various sources. This system creates a diverse upgrade mechanism and adds a strategic element, ensuring that each playthrough becomes a fresh experience.
In addition to Steam, Bioprototype is also being released on the Epic Games Store at a price of $4.99, ensuring that players can enjoy a fully free gameplay experience. With its straightforward yet addictive gameplay, this title, inspired by Vampire Survivors, is gaining popularity rapidly. It cannot be denied that the original indie game, developed by Poncle, has significantly influenced this genre within the gaming community since 2022. Notably, Vampire Survivors reached a peak of 77,000 concurrent players on Steam, a remarkable achievement for an independent game.
Following the success of Vampire Survivors, many games have drawn inspiration, including Brotato, 20 Minutes Till Dawn, and more recently, Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos – titles that not only embody elements of Vampire Survivors but also incorporate features from the well-known Diablo series. Nevertheless, Bioprototype manages to create a distinct identity in terms of biology, unique evolutionary traits, and creative monster designs. The game offers quick-paced gameplay, strategic combat, and a plethora of upgrade options, ensuring that players remain engaged throughout their gaming sessions.
