There Was Another Black Widow Before Natasha
If you love the Black Widow character portrayed by Scarlett Johansson on screen, you might be surprised to learn that she is not the only Black Widow in the Marvel universe. Before her, there was another character named Black Widow in Marvel comics back in the 1940s, and of course, she wasn’t Natasha Romanoff.
The first version of Black Widow had the secret identity of Claire Voyant. At that time in the 1940s, this comic character had not yet been developed in style, and our current version of Black Widow has been largely forgotten until it was later revived with the name Natasha Romanoff.
Black Widow’s Real Name is Natalia Romanova
Similar to other characters, our Black Widow also has a rather mysterious past, and in the comic version, her real name was revealed to be Natalia Romanova. Later, the name Natasha Romanoff became closely associated with this female character.
In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, due to the time constraints of the films for other superhero characters, Black Widow’s background was not elaborated, leading to fewer people knowing about the name Natalia Romanova.
Black Widow Was Once Married to a Russian Agent and Daredevil
In the comic version, our Black Widow was once married, but in reality, she did not retain her maiden name in this marriage. Natasha was once forced by the Russian government to marry Alexi Shostakov, another Russian agent. Although this forced marriage brought a bit of happiness, later, due to KGB orders, Alexi was forced to die in a mission, and Natasha became involved in the Red Room Academy program and became… Black Widow.
In comics, our Black Widow also had quite a few romantic relationships, including with the heroic Daredevil, Hawkeye, and even with Bucky Barnes – the Winter Soldier.
Black Widow Was Born in 1928 and Fought in World War II
To understand the background of Black Widow, one must look back at her origins. She was born in 1928 and is one of the few superheroes created during the Golden Age of comics.
According to the comic version, she was born in 1928 and suffered a lot from her childhood. During World War II, she was rescued by the Soviet army and later was trained in a special training program for espionage by the USSR. In this program, Natasha was almost brainwashed to become a killing machine.
Black Widow Was Named After a Training Program
Many fans may wonder why this female agent is called Black Widow. In fact, this was the name of a training program for female spies in the USSR – the Black Widow Program.
Many fans are curious about why this program has not been mentioned in the films, so it leaves them wondering how many Black Widows there have been. Fortunately, this complicated matter has not been mentioned in the films, so no one feels disappointed about it.
Did Black Widow Ever Study Ballet?
In the film Avengers: Age of Ultron, viewers saw a flashback scene of Black Widow, which depicted her as a ballerina. Many audiences have immediately linked her graceful and quick movements to ballet training.
In the comic version, this detail has been explained in many confusing ways. Some sources state that she studied ballet merely for her work as an agent. However, a few scenes suggest that she did not actually learn ballet, but rather this was part of the brainwashing from the Black Widow Program.
