In the film’s trailer, the main character Kato is seen at the Shinjuku station in Tokyo when an unexpected disaster occurs. Just within a minute, GANTZ:O has managed to captivate fans of the original manga. Many commented that this 3D CG animated version is even more “realistic than reality” and they are eager to see this film.
GANTZ:O focuses on the characters of GANTZ in Osaka. In the original manga, this is when the main characters realize that they are not the only ones participating in the battle against alien beings.
Five years ago, the live-action version featuring a star-studded cast such as Matsuyama Kenichi, Ninomiya Kazunari, and Hongo Kanata was a significant success. With this third 3D version, GANTZ:O features the direction of Yasushi Nakamura (who previously directed CGI for Appleseed: Ex Machina) and the screenplay by Tsutomu Kuroiwa (the writer for One Piece Gold). The renowned CG company Digital Frontier will be responsible for the production of this film. With such notable names involved, GANTZ:O is expected to be a massive hit.
The GANTZ manga is the creation of mangaka Oku Hiroya, and it first appeared in 2000. Despite its 18+ content, GANTZ has gained immense popularity due to its depth, intricacy, and gripping action sequences. The plot revolves around a mysterious black sphere that appears in an empty room in an unknown building in Tokyo, possessing the power to resurrect individuals who face imminent death.
The film is set to premiere in Japan on October 14, 2016.
