NetEase Vice President Resigns, Pulling Along Endless Concerns
Just yesterday, news about the resignation of Shaoyun, a senior Vice President of NetEase Games, has sent shockwaves through the gaming community in China, creating an environment of “unease.” According to reports, this company has officially confirmed that Shaoyun will depart at the end of December 2024.

Notably, Shaoyun has been a key figure at NetEase, working with the company for nearly two decades and holding the Vice President position for 12 years. This news has raised many concerns about the company’s ongoing struggles, particularly in light of recent financial hardships.
NetEase’s report also highlighted that its solo game product “Wanmin Changge: Three Kingdoms,” the two-dimensional role-playing game “Codename: Yuntu,” and the “Destiny Mobile Game” are all facing significant budget constraints. According to Sohu, even new blockbuster titles like Marvel Rivals are encountering obstacles during development in early 2024. Currently, NetEase is facing considerable challenges in launching additional game projects scheduled for 2025.
Is NetEase’s “Big Boss” Facing Major Challenges?
At present, NetEase ranks as the second-largest game publisher in China, only surpassed by Tencent Games, and holds the fourth position in terms of revenue. However, it seems this company is currently in a precarious situation, facing significant economic pressures and many unresolved challenges that were previously unrecognized.

Throughout last year, many of NetEase’s games faced development delays, while new products encountered serious challenges in the development process. The company’s workforce is currently grappling with a severe brain drain, as all have set great challenges for the brand’s future development trajectory.
