It is undeniable that Detective Conan is one of the most satisfying manga series for viewers both in terms of content and logical storytelling, along with its exquisite details. However, in recent years, the series has faced criticism from die-hard fans for its “dilution” of plot quality. Not to mention, the reasons for the dramatic outcome in the story have increasingly been perceived as illogical. Therefore, although fans feel nostalgic, they all want the series to conclude soon to avoid prolonging the inevitable.
Nevertheless, how the conclusion of the Conan series will be handled to be both fitting and meaningful remains a significant question, not only for fans but also for the creator himself.
Up to now, we often refer to the various endings that could potentially happen, such as: (1) The boss is eliminated, but Ran Mori continues to live on due to an accident, while Shinichi cannot find the antidote and remains in a comedic form alongside Ai Haibara; (2) The boss is ultimately eliminated, but Conan cannot find a way to revert to Shinichi; (3) The boss is eliminated, Shinichi finds the antidote, Ai Haibara develops her career, and eventually Shinichi and Ran get married; (4) Professor Agasa is the dark organization’s old man, and Mori’s daughter gets murdered… And many are curious if the conclusion of the Conan series in 2016 will align with these speculations.
Interview with author Gosho Aoyama
Recently, in an interview, the creator of the series, Gosho Aoyama, shared some details about his intentions regarding the conclusion of this beloved manga. He even referenced Agatha Christie, stating: “Agatha Christie mentioned that she wanted to publish the last chapter of Hercule Poirot after her death. I think it’s a bit unrealistic, but I also want to do something similar.”
Gosho Aoyama, born in 1963, is now 53 years old. Furthermore, the average life expectancy of Japanese people is around 79 years as of 2015. We hope that the creator of this manga will not pass away, but the reality of the situation raises concerns about a potential premature ending.
Despite everything, Conan’s passionate fans still have their reasons to be cheerful, as they asked in the interview: “Will the story be concluded in a way that the dark organization’s boss will be eliminated, and will the content continue to develop in the future?” Gosho Aoyama replied: “No. For now, the story cannot be changed anymore, but the fans can still enjoy it more.” Thus, the author has clarified that one of the most significant elements regarding the conclusion of this manga is indeed accurate. Readers should stay tuned to see if they will emerge victorious in this battle of speculation.
