According to recent information published in Deadline magazine, the action sci-fi film Avatar 2 is set to be released on December 21 during the Christmas season of 2018.
In September, at the Toronto International Film Festival, director James Cameron confirmed this information. When questioned by a Variety correspondent about the release date of Avatar 2 in December 2018, Cameron did not deny it.
Cameron stated: “We currently do not have a specific target date. However, what is important to me is not the release date, but the desire to ensure that the sequels to Avatar are released back-to-back and as close together as possible.” He continued, “If December is a reasonable deadline for us to aim for each year, I want to make sure that we can achieve that.”
In another statement, Cameron revealed that he hopes to make Avatar 2 and its sequels using 3D technology without glasses. “I will definitely pursue that,” he said, “not just with the more advanced technologies that have higher resolution and frame rates. What we are currently working on with new 3D technology is very optimistic. I believe it can happen – watching 3D movies without the need for glasses, we will achieve that.”
It is known that Avatar is a science fiction film series created by James Cameron, with the first film released in 2009. With a global box office gross of $2.7 billion, it remains the highest-grossing film of all time.
