According to Hollywood Reporter, the animated film Inside Out 2 continues to achieve impressive box office results in its second week of release. As of June 21, the film surpassed $283 million in North America alone, officially outpacing Dune 2 ($282.1 million) to become the highest-grossing film of 2024 in this market. Notably, Pixar’s production only needed 8 days to reach this milestone and shows no signs of slowing down.
On the same day, Inside Out 2 also officially crossed the $500 million mark globally, currently ranking 4th among the highest-grossing films of the year. Experts estimate that the film will gross between $650 million and $700 million after the end of its second weekend. Given the current ticket sales pace, Pixar’s latest release is poised to replace Dune 2 at the top of the box office charts, with only time remaining as the determining factor.
Furthermore, Inside Out 2 has a strong chance of becoming the first film of 2024 to surpass $1 billion globally. The production is receiving “green light” acclaim from critics, achieving a remarkable “fresh” rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. In addition, the film has been praised for its engaging storytelling, with many viewers suggesting it is a must-see.
Pixar is also very confident in this latest project. Before its release, the studio indicated that they had planned for the film’s theatrical run to last at least 100 days. Therefore, the $1 billion revenue benchmark is seen as entirely within reach for the Inside Out 2 team. Not to mention, many believe this film could surpass The Incredibles 2 ($1.24 billion) to become the highest-grossing project in Pixar’s history.
