The new trailer for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter was unveiled last week at the New York Comic-Con, introducing audiences to a variety of new zombies along with key plot details from the film. Director Paul W.S. Anderson stated that this installment of Resident Evil is indeed the most horrifying film in the series and is also the most terrifying work he has directed to date.

In a discussion with Collider, the director shared:
“If you consider it carefully, I think the first part of Resident Evil is indeed the most terrifying. The film’s plot revolves around an infiltration into The Hive, giving viewers a feeling similar to following characters exploring a haunted house. It makes me feel like it combines elements from The Shining and The Haunting. The atmosphere is incredibly terrifying and almost suffocatingly inescapable.”
“My film has about 50% of its tone matching the first part with the settings and the terrifying atmosphere we bring back from Washington D.C. In addition, I’ve created many rich and terrifying details that are quite overwhelming in the film.”
Additionally, director Paul W.S. Anderson also referenced Event Horizon, a horror film that has received high praise, and mentioned that The Final Chapter will also carry some horror spirit… just like that and it will indeed be quite terrifying.
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is set to be released on January 27, 2017.
