Anime!Anime!, the renowned Japanese anime website, has conducted a survey on the topic, “Which video game would you like to see adapted into an anime?” The survey attracted a large number of engaged participants.
Previously, several anime adaptations of video games were broadcast in 2022, including titles like Seiken Densetsu: Legend of Mana – The Teardrop Crystal, Arknights: Prelude to Dawn, and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, showcasing the popularity of this genre.
Anime!Anime! organized the survey with two categories: “Video Games for Smartphones” and “Video Games for Consoles.” The survey was conducted from December 3 to December 11, 2022.
However, the final results focused solely on the “Video Games for Consoles” category.
Now, let’s take a look at the “Video Games for Consoles” that fans are most eager to see adapted into anime:
- Fortnite
- Apex Legends
- Yakuza
- Suikoden
- GUILTY GEAR
- Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & The Secret Hideout
- Little Nightmares
- Touhou Project
- 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim
- Super Smash Bros
- Buddy Mission BOND

- Jack Jeanne
- Minecraft
- Kingdom Hearts
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Fire Emblem: Three Houses
- Undertale
- The Legend of Zelda
- Xenoblade Chronicles
The game that combines various elements with a compelling story is Xenoblade Chronicles, which has surpassed many competitors to secure the second position. This game belongs to the RPG genre and was developed by Monolith Soft and published by Nintendo for the Wii console.
The setting of Xenoblade Chronicles takes place on the bodies of two colossal beings, Bionis and Mechonis. The inhabitants of Bionis, including the Homs, who resemble humans, are engaged in an unending battle against the Mechon, mechanical beings that inhabit Mechonis.
The key to the Homs’ resistance against the Mechon army is the Monado, a legendary sword that is said to be wielded by Bionis. During a raid on their homeland, the main character, Shulk, discovers his own potential to wield the Monado and begins his journey to reclaim his homeland alongside his best friend, Reyn, and other characters as they progress through the game.
With such a rich narrative, Xenoblade Chronicles has enormous potential to attract viewers if adapted into an animated series.
1. Splatoon
Lastly, the top spot in this ranking goes to Splatoon, a game by Nintendo. In Splatoon, players take on the roles of squid-like characters known as Inklings. During battles, these Inklings can transform into squids and swim through ink, allowing them to cover the battlefield with their team’s color.
With a vibrant art style and dynamic gameplay, Splatoon emphasizes the importance of territory control, requiring players to cover over 50% of the game’s arena with their team’s ink color to claim victory. The game’s appeal lies in its colorful and fast-paced action, making it a perfect candidate for a captivating anime adaptation.
Given these engaging elements, Splatoon would undoubtedly make for an exciting animated series.
