Upon Release, MindsEye Faces Harsh Criticism from Industry Experts
The emergence of MindsEye has not gone unnoticed, with many speculating that the developers are “playing it safe.” However, as initial reviews began to surface, early concerns have turned into reality. The game, developed by Build A Rocket Boy – led by former Grand Theft Auto producer Leslie Benzies – has officially made its mark on the 2025 release calendar with a position that raises eyebrows.

According to aggregate data from Metacritic, MindsEye currently holds a low average score of 43/100 based on 6 professional reviews. This is the lowest score among all games released in 2025, officially surpassing Ambulance Life: A Paramedic Simulator as the worst-rated game of the year.
Not only has the game received poor reviews, but MindsEye has also faced a backlash from the gaming community. The user score on Metacritic stands at a mere 2.5, while on Steam, numerous “extremely negative” reviews have been recorded shortly after launch. Criticisms span various aspects, including technical glitches, lackluster graphics, confusing gameplay, and a shallow narrative.

Several players have called for significant improvements, especially on the PlayStation platform – prompting Sony to quickly intervene to address community feedback. Many users have compared MindsEye to Cyberpunk 2077 at launch; however, in this case, the situation appears more severe. While Cyberpunk had the potential to redeem itself through various patches, MindsEye has been criticized from the outset for its fundamental flaws – from content quality to design issues. One of the most damaging aspects of MindsEye has been the unprofessional handling by the development team. Prior to launch, the developers had faced backlash from the community for alleged “pay-for-review” practices to swindle positive feedback. This statement was quickly met with strong opposition from both the gaming community and industry experts, further explaining why the game did not receive any favorable reviews before its release.

With its debut score being less than stellar, MindsEye was initially expected to break new ground in the action-adventure genre. However, all hopes have seemingly crumbled just days after its release. The launch in such a poor state has not only inflicted financial damage but has also severely impacted the reputation of Build A Rocket Boy – a studio still in the process of establishing itself in the industry.
