For centuries, Dracula has been regarded as one of the most iconic figures in global horror literature. Originating from Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel, Dracula has become the archetypal vampire, influencing countless adaptations in film, literature, and popular culture throughout the 20th and 21st centuries.
To date, numerous books, television series, and films have been created about Dracula or at least involving this character, including the recent horror comedy “Renfield,” where Nicolas Cage takes on the role of Dracula. This year, fans of this classic horror figure will be treated to another film, which will explore content drawn from the original novel but from a fresh perspective. Specifically, Universal Pictures has officially released the first trailer for the film “The Last Voyage of the Demeter,” as shown below:
In previous film adaptations based on the original novel, the journey of the ship Demeter was often depicted in only a few scenes or sometimes completely omitted. This is understandable given that it serves as a minor plot detail, stretching just a few pages in the novel. However, with the longer format of a feature film, “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” promises to deliver captivating details that are no less terrifying than the ship’s notorious captain.

“The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is set to premiere in various international theaters on August 11, 2023. The film is directed by André Øvredal, known for his work on horror films like “The Autopsy of Jane Doe” and “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.” André aims to create the most chilling Dracula film to date.
