Currently, the anime industry is experiencing significant financial growth. Despite concerns regarding labor shortages, the entire sector is rapidly expanding. With the increasing popularity of online streaming services, the global reach of anime is broadening, and attention is being drawn to successful anime titles and manga in Japan. At the end of 2023, Oricon announced a list of the most lucrative intellectual properties (IPs) of the year.
Oricon is one of the leading market research companies in Japan, tracking various entertainment sectors, including music and DVD sales. Every year, the company publishes a list of the most successful franchises based on local sales data.
Although Oricon’s figures do not cover all sales (as they do not include some digital and international sales), they provide a comprehensive overview of the most famous anime in Japan. This year, One Piece topped the list, outperforming Blue Lock.

Looking at this list, it is evident that One Piece has achieved a remarkable revenue of 6.3 billion yen, placing it at the top, with Blue Lock following closely at 6.1 billion yen. Jujutsu Kaisen ranks third with 4.94 billion yen, just ahead of Oshi no Ko with 4.90 billion yen. Slam Dunk makes it into the top five with 4.2 billion yen.

The competition for top market positions this year is intense. Blue Lock has seen its sales soar following the FIFA World Cup. Oshi no Ko also had a remarkable year in 2023, with its anime release and the hit song “Idol” gaining global recognition. Nevertheless, One Piece continues to maintain its leading position, marking another successful year for the franchise.
