Following the official announcement from IO Interactive confirming that James Bond will have his own dedicated game, the renowned developer of the Hitman series has unveiled the first details about 007: First Light.
Unlike the traditional dark and brooding imagery that audiences are accustomed to, this time Bond is portrayed as a fresh-faced recruit, navigating the legendary path of MI6.

According to the trailer featured in the game title, Bond remains a Royal Navy recruit, often clashing with superiors and not quite following orders to the letter.
However, his raw talent and keen instincts have led him to be assigned to the agency’s intelligence division. In the game, Bond is referred to as a “rookie operative,” and the player’s main objective will be to help him discover his identity and purpose. During the recent Sony State of Play event, the game 007: First Light officially debuted with its first trailer, introducing a new iteration of the legendary agent James Bond—who many audiences have noted bears a striking resemblance to Tom Cruise.

007: First Light marks the return of the James Bond game franchise after over a decade of silence since 007 Legends (2012). In this new title, players will step into Bond’s shoes, executing missions either stealthily or through violent action, depending on their chosen playstyle. IO Interactive assures that the game will feature all the familiar elements such as intense chases, high-tech gadgets, and close-quarters combat. Everything will be reimagined with a fresh perspective on the formative years of this iconic agent. James Bond in First Light is portrayed as intelligent, resourceful, and incredibly capable—yet still a “walking time bomb” that poses risks for MI6. Thus, the gameplay will not merely focus on action; it will also narrate a transformative journey where players witness Bond evolve from a reckless young man into a legendary symbol.

007: First Light is set to be released in 2026 and is already on the wishlist for platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. Players who sign up for an IOI account now will receive the “On Duty” badge and the “Gilded Wraith” skin when the game launches.
