On the afternoon of October 19th, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department issued a decision to initiate an investigation and search warrant, as well as an arrest warrant for Tran Thi Ngoc Trinh (also known as model Ngoc Trinh) regarding the offense of “Causing public disorder.”
As soon as the news broke, it created a stir across various social media platforms.
Taking Risks to Capture Attention
Recently, at the end of September 2023, Ngoc Trinh began posting videos showcasing dangerous motorcycle stunts while riding on a busy road.
Throughout the videos, Ngoc Trinh displayed reckless behavior by lifting both legs off the ground, sitting back, and even steering with one hand, or in some cases, both hands off the handlebars, allowing the motorcycle to veer dangerously forward.
The video garnered intense backlash almost immediately after it was shared online. Many criticized Ngoc Trinh for her reckless actions that endanger not only herself but also others, all in the name of gaining views. Despite this, she remains a public figure with nearly 7 million followers on social media, and her actions have raised concerns about their negative impact on society.
Ignoring warnings and criticisms from the online community, Ngoc Trinh casually responded, “I’ll update regularly.”
On October 8th, popular singer Vu Khac Tiep shared a moment when Ngoc Trinh had to be supported after an accident while riding a motorcycle. Reports indicate that after these dangerous actions, the “Queen of Underwear” suffered injuries to her right shoulder, knee pain, and bruises on her arms…
This was the first serious consequence Ngoc Trinh faced after her reckless motorcycle stunts.
Facing Severe Consequences
On October 9th, the Traffic Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City announced that they had summoned Ngoc Trinh to clarify her motorcycle riding behavior in the videos that displayed dangerous stunts.
On the afternoon of October 9th, sources from the Labor Newspaper confirmed that the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police and the Urban Order Police had confiscated the motorcycles involved in Ngoc Trinh’s videos. She faced penalties for operating a motorcycle with a cylinder capacity exceeding 175 cm³ without a license, riding without a helmet, and other violations, accumulating fines of up to 17 million VND.
On October 10th, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department collaborated with the Traffic Police Department to continue investigating those involved in supplying motorcycles for Ngoc Trinh to perform her stunts and record videos uploaded to social media. That same day, the individuals who assisted and provided the motorcycles were summoned to the Traffic Police Department for questioning. Here, they admitted to their violations and the Traffic Police compiled reports to impose administrative penalties on these actions.
On October 12th, Ngoc Trinh continued to make headlines as she casually responded, suggesting that if the “Queen of Underwear” had a chance, she would seek permitted locations to practice safely for herself and others, as well as comply with traffic laws.
On the same day, Ngoc Trinh seemed unfazed by the penalties as she continued to post on social media, presenting herself as if she were challenging the system. Specifically, she posted a photo of herself acknowledging the penalties, adding captions implying, “Can’t be more accurate than this.” In addition, the “Queen of Underwear” shared a photo of herself in a striking pose, praising her own appearance and calling it “adorable.”
On October 19th, the public was taken by surprise as news broke about Ngoc Trinh being officially charged and detained. The Ho Chi Minh City Police Department announced that they initiated legal proceedings against her based on articles related to public disorder under the law.
Alongside Ngoc Trinh, the police also decided to charge and detain Tran Xuan Dong (born 1987, residing in District 7) for the offenses of “Misusing state resources” and “Causing public disorder,” as stipulated in Articles 314 and 318 of the Penal Code.
Images of Ngoc Trinh at the police station quickly circulated across various platforms. The images depicted Ngoc Trinh appearing at the police station looking composed and defiant.
During her appearance at the police station, Ngoc Trinh stated that she did not believe her actions constituted a severe violation of the law. Regarding the videos of her motorcycle rides uploaded to social media, she admitted that the people in her crew, including her manager and assistants, were responsible for editing and posting those videos on her personal accounts. “The Queen of Underwear” claimed she filmed the videos for promotional purposes, aiming to enhance her public image on social media.
Currently, media and public attention continues to focus on Ngoc Trinh’s situation. It remains to be seen how she will respond to the legal charges and whether her actions will influence public opinion regarding celebrity behavior on social media. Notably, public figures should consider the potential impact of their actions on society, particularly in light of their significant influence on the online community.
