Uzumaki Naruto, the relentless ninja from the Village Hidden in the Leaves, has conquered the respect of everyone around him through his determination and extraordinary perseverance. While the search for chakra has never been easy, Naruto faced an even greater challenge as the host of Kurama, the Nine-Tails Fox. Despite their initial hostility, Naruto gradually earned Kurama’s respect, leading to a strong bond that enhanced his abilities.
So, how did Naruto’s mastery of Kurama’s power evolve over time?
Naruto Harnesses Kurama’s Power

Initially, Uzumaki Naruto was unaware of Kurama’s existence within him. Kurama had been sealed inside Naruto since he was an infant by his father, the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze. This meant Naruto inherited a massive reservoir of chakra that he could not utilize at first. Over time, Kurama’s chakra began to intertwine with Naruto’s, allowing him to face various challenges in mastering other jutsu.
At the beginning, Kurama’s chakra was still sealed within Naruto. However, each time Naruto accessed Kurama’s chakra (known as the Tailed Beast Mode), his strength surged dramatically, enveloping him in a cloak of orange chakra that made him more ferocious.
The sealing of Kurama’s chakra within Naruto diminished gradually over time. As Kurama remained dormant and continually sought ways to control Naruto, during Naruto’s emotional turmoil, Kurama was allowed to access Naruto’s chakra. As a result, Naruto was cloaked in a striking orange outfit. Occasionally, a second layer of chakra would appear, making it difficult for him to differentiate between friend and foe.
Naruto Transitions into Kurama’s Form

Naruto and Kurama faced numerous challenges and misunderstandings. Initially, Naruto struggled to control Kurama and relied on him during tough times. A significant turning point occurred during the Fourth Great Ninja War when Naruto learned Kurama’s name. Despite their past confrontations, Naruto managed to weaken Kurama and earn the respect of the Nine-Tails. After this, Kurama began to respect Naruto, cooperating and allowing Naruto to fully unleash his sealed power, liberating Kurama from confinement and enabling Naruto to utilize his chakra when his heart was in turmoil.
The Tailed Beast Mode of Naruto

After Naruto liberated Kurama, he was able to access his Tailed Beast Mode. However, during the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto could only access this form to a limited extent. During this time, Naruto could conquer and transform into a larger version of Kurama. Even so, this Tailed Beast Mode allowed him to utilize his chakra without needing to fully transform.
In Tailed Beast Mode, Naruto could also transfer Kurama’s chakra and distribute it to those around him. This ability would envelop individuals in a cloak of “orange chakra,” significantly enhancing their physical abilities. Since Kurama and Naruto had formed a bond, the initial ferocity of Naruto with this new transformation was no longer present.
Naruto Combines Tailed Beast Mode with Sage Mode

Naruto attained Sage Mode while training under Jiraiya’s supervision at Mount Myoboku. In this state, he combined natural energy with his chakra to create Sage Chakra, significantly increasing his speed, strength, perception, and Ninjutsu capabilities. Initially, Kurama did not favor Sage Mode, but when they began to cooperate, Naruto could absorb natural energy faster than when he was in Tailed Beast Mode, thus amplifying his own abilities.
The evolution of the Tailed Beast Mode did not stop there. During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto and Sasuke received the powers of the Sage of Six Paths, Hagoromo, who bestowed the Six Paths Sage Mode upon Naruto. This fusion of Six Paths chakra with Tailed Beast Mode and Sage Mode enhanced Naruto’s abilities significantly. Moreover, the Six Paths Sage Mode further amplified Naruto’s physical capabilities. With this development, Naruto was also able to manipulate his chakra, fully distancing himself from his previous self.
Following the Fourth Great Ninja War, Naruto and Sasuke engaged in a final clash. With Kurama’s cooperation, Naruto could gather natural energy as well. In battle, Kurama was tasked with absorbing and storing energy from the surrounding environment. In fact, it was mentioned that he could have “absorbed too much” in chapter 696. With this vast amount of natural energy, Naruto was able to utilize Asura Kurama Mode, enabling him to execute the Six Paths: Ultra-Big Ball Rasenshuriken, a technique powerful enough to counter Sasuke’s final attack.
Tailed Beast Baryon Mode: High-Powered but Risky

The ultimate form of Naruto and Kurama is the Baryon Mode, introduced in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Although this state is immensely powerful compared to previous forms, it carries significant drawbacks and can be a dangerous technique if used for too long. In this mode, all of Kurama’s chakra within its jinchuriki is consumed, leading to a depletion of chakra for the user. However, this immense power elevates Naruto to unprecedented heights.
Despite this, it does not mean Kurama dies in the process, as the fox will eventually be reincarnated within a new host.
Through continuous training and the respect earned from Kurama, Naruto has achieved tremendous power, drastically altering the dynamics of battles and his relationships with others.
