Is the LJL the Most Unique League of Legends Professional Tournament?
In the realm of League of Legends (LoL) professional tournaments, there are four regions that have previously been regarded as the Major groups: LCK, LPL, LEC, and LCS. In addition, the remaining regions are collectively referred to as the Minor groups, although within this group, the PCS and VCS have consistently performed better and even managed to surprise the Major representatives above on several occasions. However, there is one region that has always remained in the “gray area” and has yet to escape, despite having some notable external teams, namely the LJL – the League of Legends in Japan.

According to reports, the LJL currently has a quite unique format: a total of 12 teams, where after each round of matches, the bottom-ranked teams have the opportunity to challenge higher-ranked teams in their next match. If a lower-ranked team faces a higher-ranked team and wins, the points gained will be significantly higher than normal. However, this has created a somewhat awkward situation as well.
For instance, the 10th ranked team, Deltan (which has certainly been confirmed to be of lower quality), competes against the team Bamboo Juice (which has a chance to make it into the top 6). After that, it was disappointing for Bamboo Juice as they faced defeat. Not only did they miss the opportunity to make it into the top 6, but this team has also consistently faced challenges throughout the season. However, what is particularly concerning is that even if Bamboo Juice wins, they still don’t secure enough points to enter the top 6 (as Deltan, despite being ranked lower, only brings very few points to Bamboo Juice).

Thus, there will be some teams that still have opportunities to compete at the top, but due to being “chosen”, they might find themselves “flying colors.” Additionally, there are teams that, despite being ranked lower, still have opportunities to compete and improve their standings, especially when the uncertainty is already established.
The League of Legends Community is Eagerly Awaiting a Unique Format
In reality, this format will bring much excitement for spectators and all the teams involved, while also making calculations difficult as it is unclear when one might be chosen. However, precisely because of this, the matches will likely be more surprising and the overall atmosphere is expected to be increasingly anticipated. Nonetheless, according to many viewers, the major tournaments will be challenging to implement the format like LJL and will bring about more controversies, as well as “high stakes” for competing teams.
