Currently, in the global film industry, there is hardly any franchise that can compare to Fast & Furious in terms of massive scale and its ability to attract a devoted fanbase. With each new installment, this series continues to leave viewers eagerly anticipating the next chapter, where Dom’s crew (Vin Diesel) will confront various “villainous” figures in the criminal underworld.
However, with the upcoming mega-hit Fast 8, the character portrayal in the film promises to leave a strong impression, especially since fans have a penchant for the glamorous yet dangerous criminal archetypes, represented by characters like Jason Statham’s and the elegant villainess played by Charlize Theron.
To further excite fans, in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, composer Brian Tyler shared some insights about the character Cipher, portrayed by Charlize Theron:
“She is incredibly compelling, and I am sure her destructive personality will captivate you. Moreover, audiences will notice the thrilling actions of this character, which are both chilling and irresistibly engaging. She resembles the character Hannibal Lecter (from The Silence of the Lambs) created by Anthony Hopkins, with a sinister charm that makes you feel intrigued yet repulsed, prompting you to wonder, ‘Why am I drawn to such a monstrous figure?'”
If the character Cipher played by Charlize Theron in Fast 8 proves to be what Brian Tyler describes, we can expect a truly unique character that will revolutionize the Fast & Furious franchise.
It is worth noting that in recent installments, supporting characters in the Fast & Furious universe have often been evaluated as less compelling. The previous portrayal of Jason Statham’s character primarily aimed to create a memorable impression, but the action sequences fell short of delivering a “wow” factor. Viewers often found themselves puzzled, asking, ‘Wait, what is supposed to happen next here?’
With Charlize Theron’s Cipher character, we can expect a more complex villain, one that leaves a deeper mark on the audience compared to Jason Statham. This villain will not only be darker but will also possess a more multifaceted personality, making it one of the most memorable antagonists in the Fast & Furious series to date.
Even Vin Diesel himself commented on his personal Facebook page that Charlize Theron has indeed made a significant impression on him, and she has delivered a stellar performance in Fast 8.
The highly anticipated Fast 8 is set to be completed and released on April 14, 2017.
