The cosplayer June Rivas has achieved something that few dare to do in the cosplay world, which is to… “fight” back against the decision of her employer regarding her appearance.
Specifically, according to Yahoo, Rivas’s employer criticized her for her outfit choices, claiming they were unprofessional because she sometimes wore a ponytail and occasionally had an updo. Rivas believes she is not at fault since her company’s policy only requires a professional dress code and adherence to grooming standards.
Following this, Rivas filed a complaint with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the agency that resolves workplace discrimination cases.
Her employer retaliated by introducing new rules regarding attire at the workplace, prohibiting items such as skirts, sandals, and leather clothing… and, of course, the use of hairbands. It goes without saying that the employer wanted to “control” Rivas’s appearance.
