Kagurabachi: A Rising Star in the Manga World

The popular Japanese television program Manganuma has recently focused on “Kagurabachi”, created by Takeru Hokasono. This action-packed manga made its debut in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in September 2023. According to Manganuma hosts Kawashima and Yamauchi, “Kagurabachi” has quickly become a significant success among readers, placing it on the list of highly recommended titles in various Animate bookstores for 2024.
Kawashima and Yamauchi also shared insights from a representative of Shueisha, expressing high hopes for the series. “A Shueisha staff member mentioned that they want Kagurabachi to lead the way for the next generation of Shonen Jump,” the hosts reported.
While many Shonen Jump heroes often emphasize protecting others or aspiring to be stronger, “Kagurabachi” primarily revolves around a coming-of-age story. The narrative follows a young man named Chihiro Rokuhira, who has devoted a significant part of his life to training to become a renowned swordsmith like his father, Kunishige. However, Chihiro’s aspirations are shattered when his father is brutally murdered. Since that fateful day, his new mission has been to seek revenge by hunting down his father’s killer.
Despite being a newcomer, “Kagurabachi” has captivated a large audience both domestically and internationally. Although the manga currently has only one volume, it has already sold over 200,000 copies globally, including both physical sales and digital formats. According to Manganuma, copies of Kagurabachi are rapidly flying off the shelves in Japanese bookstores, indicating that the series has not yet shown any signs of slowing down.
