Goku, Gohan, Vegeta, Piccolo, and Broly are the five strongest heroes in Dragon Ball Super, but only Toyotarou knows who the strongest among them truly is. In a recent interview with the beloved Dragon Ball fan and journalist Maria Makino, Toyotarou briefly discussed the strongest characters in the series on the cover of Dragon Ball Super Vol. 24.
Toyotarou’s answer could potentially disappoint many fans, but it will surely continue the ongoing debates among enthusiasts in the near future.
Dragon Ball Super Keeps the Identity of the Main Character a Secret

Even before the latest cover of the Dragon Ball Super manga was released, discussions centered around which Z fighter is currently the strongest have focused on Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Broly, and Piccolo. Based on the most recent storyline, the strongest fighters are clearly the best, as characters like Goten, Trunks, Androids 17, 18, and Majin Buu have significantly lagged behind these five powerful heroes.
With the five characters listed above, Dragon Ball Super has unique transformations, and the identity of the strongest warrior in the series remains the most ambiguous to date.

There are serious arguments supporting the Saiyan warriors among the main characters of Dragon Ball Super. Following his defeat to Gas, Goku has significantly enhanced his Ultra Instinct form to a level that far surpasses its previous state. Similarly, while Vegeta was unable to defeat Granolah, he had more than a year to train and become stronger than his previous Ultra Instinct form. Goku was previously much stronger than Vegeta, but in the Super Hero Saga, Vegeta now has the potential to match Goku in a fight.

Also in the Super Hero Saga, Gohan, alongside his father, and his “Beast” transformation, has become notably stronger than Goku. With Broly, even though he hasn’t displayed his full power for a while, it’s worth noting that both Goku and Vegeta couldn’t contend with Broly during the legendary Super Saiyan fight, as he had been training diligently during that time.

The only character in Dragon Ball Super that is clearly not the strongest is Piccolo. While some fans might argue that Orange Piccolo is on par with any Saiyan, the Super Hero Saga clearly shows that he is weaker than Gohan Beast. Although Piccolo is the main character of the arc, he couldn’t defeat Cell Max, and Gohan had to complete this task.
Toyotarou Discusses the Identity of the Strongest Z Fighter in Dragon Ball Super
Despite the speculation from fans, Toyotarou is the only one with the final say on who the strongest character in Dragon Ball Super currently is. In a recent interview with Makino, he stated that he would like to clarify this issue, mentioning: “In the Super Hero movie, Piccolo becomes Orange Piccolo, and Gohan becomes Beast, right? So, who is the strongest among Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Piccolo, and Broly?”
Toyotarou continued to answer his own question, which could potentially upset many fans: “As I mentioned earlier, I want to highlight the strength of each character as they are all unique.”
This response is not only conclusive but also leaves room for interpretation. While fans may enjoy debating which character is the strongest, for Toyotarou, all of them are equally strong, and any differences in their power levels are quite minimal.
Toyotarou’s answer might disappoint some fans, but it also highlights the potential for the upcoming Black Frieza Saga to bring about a significant change. Never before have Dragon Ball heroes had such evenly matched strengths, and this indicates that the storyline could take directions that haven’t been explored before. Certainly, considering the nature of the series, Saiyan warriors and Piccolo may not have equal strength over a long period.
