Continuing the promotional image series for the movie Transformers: The Last Knight, the film’s production team has released new images of the robot Barricade, which transforms into a police car that once chased the main character Sam Witwicky in the first installment. Barricade has previously been killed multiple times in comics and movies, but now he will return in Transformers: The Last Knight.
Barricade will be portrayed by actor Josh Duhamel and will serve as a member of the Decepticon army. In the live-action version, Barricade is a black vehicle with a rather menacing appearance, which has now been revamped with a much shinier color and equipped with a set of LED lights that illuminate during transformations. Barricade’s face has also been redesigned to have many features similar to Bumblebee.
A notable feature of this robot is the text prints “SERVE” and “PROTECT” on its arms, along with “PUNISH” and “ENSLAVE” at the rear, acting as a warning to enemies after every hit. This also serves as a reminder for the combat scenes that follow closely in battle.
In the first movie, Barricade made his initial appearance in a chase scene on a high-speed road, helping Bonecrusher fight against Optimus Prime, the leader of the Autobots, but then mysteriously vanished from the series for quite some time.
For comparisons to his original, more sharp-edged alien design, here’s official Barricade art from the 2007 movie:
It can be seen that the Barricade version in Transformers: The Last Knight has been designed to be much sturdier than before. However, the color change also makes this robot appear more powerful and vibrant compared to the first installment. Many fans are speculating that Barricade’s redesigned face resembles Bumblebee, indicating that these two characters may have significant connections in this new film.
