Superman and other superheroes meet mythical figures from China, showcasing artistic masterpieces by Jacky Tsai that blend comic art with traditional Chinese ink painting styles. The Chinese artist, now living and working in the UK, will hold a solo exhibition of his latest works at the “Fine Arts Society” in London, opening on October 18th.
“Jacky’s works depict renowned superheroes from Western culture alongside iconic characters from Chinese mythology in vibrant poetic settings. One of the pieces showcases a reverse narrative of the game ‘Pokémon GO’ by Nintendo; instead of ‘Western’ characters capturing a positive aspect of Asian culture, Chinese characters are depicted as Western superheroes. With this approach, Jacky is able to create stunning visual narratives,” said Sara Terzi, Deputy Director at the “Fine Art Society.”
Tsai employs various traditional Chinese artistic techniques, including embroidery and woodcutting, leaving a strong impression on viewers and evoking a desire to preserve ancient artistic forms that are gradually fading away. Below are some of Tsai’s works that will be exhibited:
