On October 2nd, a cosplay festival took place at the Indochina Trade Center, Xuan Thuy, Cau Giay, Hanoi, attracting a vibrant community of young enthusiasts passionate about this art form. However, the highlight of the festival was a particularly ‘unique’ male student.
As you can see, the main focus of this male student was his provocative accessories such as chains, ropes, and locks, reminiscent of characters from popular ‘adult-themed’ films. Not only did he wear such eye-catching attire, but he also performed in a very bold manner, causing not only the attendees who are fans of cosplay but also the parents of the younger participants to feel a mixture of shock and disbelief.
Immediately, this cosplay act sparked controversial discussions. While some considered it a creative expression, others were quick to criticize the student for his bold choices, questioning the appropriateness of such actions in a public setting.
In response to the backlash, the student took to social media to apologize to the cosplay community in Vietnam:
“I don’t mind being criticized for my choices, I just wanted to bring a unique performance that stands out, and if it doesn’t fit within the norm, then that’s just how it is. I enjoy creating and don’t feel the need to conform to what others think. For me, it’s about expressing myself, and I hope everyone can appreciate the art of cosplay for what it truly is. Today’s outfit was just a playful experiment. Much love!”
Despite the controversy, the event highlighted the diverse expressions within the cosplay community and sparked discussions around creativity, acceptance, and the boundaries of artistic expression.
