Young Gamer Suffers Severe Health Issues After Prolonged Gaming
Recently, social media has been abuzz with discussions about a 25-year-old gamer in Japan who had to be hospitalized due to an extreme health crisis. According to reports, the young man could not cease his prolonged gaming sessions due to serious degenerative spinal conditions, primarily caused by long hours spent gaming on his mobile device.

This incident occurred in Tokyo in 2023 and has recently been published in the medical journal JOS Case Reports, attracting significant attention within the medical community and the public. According to the documentation, the patient began experiencing persistent back pain throughout the year, accompanied by symptoms of muscle spasms and rapid weight loss. He reportedly could not eat normally due to continuous pain. Furthermore, the patient experienced a notable decline in mental health, spending most of his time alone in a gaming room, often during the night.
Initial examinations revealed a remarkable cyst on the back of the patient’s neck, resembling a “sac” protrusion. X-ray and MRI images showed severe spinal deformities and multiple lesions, which are consequences of maintaining a poor posture for prolonged periods—an issue that medical professionals refer to as “cervical spondylosis”, a rare condition that has been increasingly seen in younger individuals due to excessive use of mobile devices.
Fortunately, the Gamer Underwent Successful Surgery After a Year
Initially, the medical team attempted to treat the condition using conservative methods such as physical therapy. However, the patient’s condition worsened, leading the doctors to decide on surgery, where they removed the cyst and adjusted the spinal structure using metal screws and rods.

After six months of recovery, the young gamer was able to return to a normal life. One year later, his mobility and strength were fully restored, showing no signs of relapse.

Through this case, doctors have warned that excessive use of mobile devices is a primary cause leading to severe health issues related to the spine, nervous system, and overall well-being. Particularly, younger generations—who are the most frequent consumers of mobile devices—must adjust their habits and pay attention to avoid unwanted health repercussions.
