A Vietnamese League of Legends Player Faces Severe Penalties for Match-Fixing
According to reports, the player League of Legends player, Dai Phu “Hoopa” Mong, is currently competing under the FURY Global team, which participates in the LCO (League of Legends Circuit Oceania). Recently, during a match between FURY and Antic Esports, Sportradar (a renowned sports monitoring agency) discovered suspicious betting patterns indicating potential match-fixing involving FURY.

After being Riot Games’ focus, the organization investigated Hoopa’s involvement in match-fixing with another FURY team member during Split 1 of the LCO 2024 season. Although there are currently no signs of misconduct in Split 2, Riot Games has taken action based on clear evidence from Split 1.
Based on the information available and under global regulations, Riot Games has officially banned Hoopa for a period of one year, starting January 20, 2025. Despite the player submitting a strong appeal on January 16, the ban remains in effect.

Connection to Vietnamese League of Legends
In reality, not many VCS (Vietnam Championship Series) fans are familiar with Hoopa from the LCO. However, the nickname “Hoopa” is quite recognizable as it is the in-game name of player Nanaue, who previously played for Vikings Esports in 2024. Due to the registration of this nickname by LCO’s Hoopa, the VKE team had to change their player’s name.

Once again, a Vietnamese player has caused a stir in the VCS community. There may be several reasons for this incident, but when trust in the competitive scene is broken, the repercussions can be significant.
