Warner Bros. Discovery Expands Its Anime Production
The expansive growth of Warner Bros. Discovery’s production capabilities is significantly driven by the remarkable global success of anime, especially in recent years. Titles like JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure and Record of Ragnarok have garnered immense popularity on Netflix, consistently appearing in its global Top 10 weekly rankings.
“We have been selling our titles to third parties. This is one of the metrics. And we are working really well. Because of that, given the appeal of this category, we are currently expanding our offerings. Anime is one of the best ways to connect with the hard-to-reach audience of 18 to 30-year-olds,” said Gibbons.
The executive added: “Globally, although it may not apply to all markets, there is certainly a demand for anime in the United States, some regions in Europe, and Latin America.”
“There are Japanese animated films that are derived from original source material. However, there are also anime that are adapted from other sources. We have considered our DC properties and asked, ‘Can we take these characters and reimagine them in the anime world?’ This is not a simple task because you have to do it right. You need to work with the right studio to transform these concepts into reality and build a compelling narrative,” he explained.
Conclusion
As Warner Bros. Discovery continues to invest in anime, it highlights the increasing importance of this medium in reaching younger audiences globally. With the right partnerships and creative approaches, the potential for success in this genre is vast.
