Despite the numerous film adaptations, when mentioning X-Men, audiences inevitably think of the iconic character Wolverine, brought to life by actor Hugh Jackman. This character is not only significant as the main figure in the X-Men film series but has also earned the affectionate nickname “the wolf” among Vietnamese fans, even though the name Wolverine literally means “wolf cub”.
According to the latest announcement from the X-Men Twitter page, the third installment in the standalone Logan series has officially been titled Wolverine: Weapon X. This title was officially registered by Fox just yesterday.
With this name, there isn’t much to say; fans of Wolverine already know that this installment will focus on the research project known as Weapon X, which aimed to create a super soldier by altering the genetic code of its subjects for military purposes.
In the film X-Men: Origins, audiences were introduced to the Weapon X program alongside the connection this project had with Wolverine being bonded with Adamantium.
In the third part of the Wolverine series, we will also meet a familiar character for hardcore fans, Laura Kinney, also known as X-23, a clone version of Logan.
Like Wolverine, X-23 also possesses rapid regenerative abilities, enhanced speed, and strength, along with remarkable endurance. Additionally, X-23 has retractable Adamantium claws on both her hands and… her feet. In the 2015 comic version, this character is depicted as Logan’s daughter, whom she regards as her father, although she also inherits the Wolverine title.
