Young Man Engages in Sophisticated Theft
Recently, a daring theft incident occurred in Shanghai that has left the authorities baffled. According to reports, a technician named Hu, currently employed at a technology company in a 32-story building, was apprehended by the police for allegedly stealing a large number of laptops from the company’s inventory. Interestingly, it is reported that all stolen items were sold at a low price so he could “donate” money to his favorite streamers.

The case was discovered during an internal audit of the company, prompting a report to the police regarding the missing laptops from the inventory. Remarkably, the entire situation was not disrupted, and the lock remained intact, leading police to suspect that this was an inside job.

Through the analysis of surveillance cameras and related data, authorities quickly identified Hu as the prime suspect—an IT employee with access to the system and a clear understanding of the storage area on the 32nd floor. The cameras recorded Hu multiple times after hours, using his access to retrieve laptops from the storage area, then leaving without any sign of disturbance.
Nearly 200 Laptops Stolen for “Donations” to Streamers…
During the investigation, Hu admitted that he was an avid gamer and frequently “donated” money to various streamers to make an impression. When he discovered that the company had a stockpile of laptops, his greed took over, and he exploited his job position to act. From December 2024 to the beginning of 2025, Hu reportedly executed the theft of laptops and sold a total of 158 laptops, with the sole purpose of using the proceeds for personal expenses and “donations” to his favorite streamers.

Police confirmed that all the money obtained from selling the stolen laptops was used by Hu for personal expenditures and donations on various livestreaming platforms. Following the trail left by online sales channels, authorities proceeded to apprehend Hu at his residence, where he fully confessed to the illegal activities.
Currently, the case continues to undergo investigation and is wide open. Hu has been detained on charges of theft of company property under Chinese legal regulations.
