As we announced in a previous article, director J.A. Bayona has parted ways with the second installment of the zombie blockbuster World War Z 2 to participate in the film project A Monster Calls. Since then, the film project has kept fans around the world on edge, as there has been little information revealed about it.
Yesterday, according to information from Variety, it was revealed that the film will feature actor Brad Pitt and will be directed by David Fincher (known for Fight Club and Gone Girl). While this is only a preliminary plan, the film crew seems to have made a final decision. As of now, there is still no other director being considered for World War Z 2.
If you are not familiar, World War Z is a film based on a novel that depicts a worldwide zombie pandemic and the fight for humanity’s survival. A significant difference between this film and previous works in the genre is the extremely fast and intelligent zombies, which add a level of danger for the main characters as they engage with them.
In the first film, World War Z (2013), Gerry Lane (played by Brad Pitt) discovered that the only way to combat zombies was to inject the virus into a host, causing them to become immune and not attack humans. However, humanity has yet to find a solution to effectively combat the zombie threat in reality.
According to the schedule, the second installment of the film is expected to be completed by June 9, 2017, but with the current instability regarding the film’s cast, particularly the new director’s role, it may take longer to release.
