The manga series titled Kochira Katsushika-ku Kamearikoen-mae Hashutsujo, commonly known as Kochikame, has long been recognized as one of the longest-running manga in Japan. It first debuted in 1976 and has since released a total of 199 volumes.
According to an announcement from the publisher, Osamu Akimoto, the creator of Kochikame, will conclude the series in the upcoming issue of Shounen Jump next month. He has been working on this beloved series for nearly 40 years.
“I have put in a lot of effort. And when I create a series that has run for so long, it becomes very difficult to end it, especially when it’s something that has defined my career. Kochikame has been the flagship series of the magazine, so this is a very difficult decision for me.”
If you are not familiar, Kochikame follows the humorous adventures of a police officer named Kankichi Ryoutsu and his friends in and around their police station. Each chapter presents a different, amusing story, and Osamu Akimoto has closely bonded with this series over the decades.
